Stonehenge is considered to be one of the of the most famous surviving sites from the ancient world. It is located in Wiltshire, England, and the giant circle of huge stones was thought to have been erected somewhere between 3000 and 1600 B.C. Some of the stones stand at more than 20ft high, with the heaviest stone weighing an incredible 50 tonnes New archaeological evidence suggests that Stonehenge was used as a burial ground. Cremated remains have been found at the site which date back to as early as 300 B.C, which is when the first ditches are thought to have been dug around the monument.

Up until 1977 visitors were able to walk around the stones and even touch them, however due to serious erosion issues the stones are now roped off, visitors can walk around the stones from a short distance.

There are many folklore tales surrounding how the stones came to be. One of these such tales is ''friar's heel''. It is said the Devil bought the stones from a women in Ireland and brought them to the Sailsbury Plain. However the stones got there, they are certainly something worth seeing!
